Generally on trek you have a support staff that includes a guide, camp staff and cook, and porterage is provided. We expect you to carry no more than a small day pack .
By providing what seems like a large support team we not only provide much needed employment to the locals but also lessen your burden so that you can enjoy your walk . The friendly attitude of these people make your travels with them a culturally enjoyable experience.
If you are travelling on your own to join one of our treks, we prefer to receive you on arrival in the country or town - where you will be arriving. So this could be in Kolkata, Delhi , Beijing , Buenos Aires or Lima and arrange all transfers for you behalf.
Not all our guides - speak excellent English, but communication is not usually a problem. Their experience and local knowledge and sincere interest in your welfare make up for any imperfection in their language skills.
Accommodation is on a twin share basis - unless single accommodation is specifically requested and paid for. In towns this accommodation includes breakfast. Walking tours and sightseeing tours are offered where mentioned in the itinerary at no extra cost.
The trek routine: Your morning begins with bed tea being served to you in your tent around 6:30am. A few minutes later, a small bowl of washing water (usually warm!), is brought to you. Breakfast is usually around 7:30am and you are requested to pack your gear in your bags before going to breakfast . The camp staff pack your tent while you are having breakfast. You normally begin trekking with your guide around 8:30am. The camp staff pack up after you and overtake you along the way.
Lunch is at about 12noon or at a suitable location. Most times you will have a prepacked lunch, however, on some occassions, the camp staff prefer to prepare you a hot lunch.
You normally arrive at camp at about 3:30pm. On most occassions, the camp staff will have walked past you and set up camp. However, if they are delayed for any number of reasons eg - not being able to find their yak or donkey which might have strayed during their night time grazing, you may have to wait a short while. It is therefore advisable to carry a warm jacket and trouser for such an occassion.
All going well - on arrival at camp you will be served afternoon tea and snacks. Dinner is served at about 6:30pm.The tents we use is suitable for two persons and have proved to be good for the regions we trek in.
Tipping: Your tip, brings a smile on the faces of your support staff. Expectations are different and depends on the region you are travelling too. We will be happy to advise you on this when we send you your final trip notes.
