The Trekking Company has provided me with the opportunity to travel to some spectacular places. My recent trip was to the UK and Germany. I was able to enjoy and experience some marvellous hospitality and sights that only the locals could organise. Thanks to our regular travellers - Chris and Hazel and friends like Christel in Germany!
I am now looking forward to going on two very exciting treks in the coming months, and would like to tell you about one of my favourite treks – the one to the Cordillera Huayhuash in Peru. So if you are thinking of something exciting to do in the coming months, you may like to consider them.
Argentina & Chile: Patagonia February 2008
On the Patagonian trip we visit the picturesque Lake districts of Argentina and Chile, The Moreno Glacier, Terra del Fuego and the charming city of Buenos Aires. Then we take day walks in the two most scenic national parks in Patagonia, a region renowned for its pristine natural beauty. This is an active holiday where we stay in comfortable Hosterias – which are the equivalent of 3* European Hotels. The food and wine available is also excellent. We shall be travelling by plane, bus and catamaran. Please book early - to ensure a place as making hotel bookings in this part of the world is difficult.

Tibet: Kangshung Face of Mt. Everest May 2008
On the Tibet trip – I am going back to a region where I first trekked to in 1997. The little used trail to the Kangshung Face (East Face) of Everest is spectacular. It takes you through an amazing variety of landscape, vegetation and rugged passes. You trek through Tibetan villages, rocky paths, across high passes, lush green rhododendron forests and yak grazing grounds. Makalu 8,462m / 27755ft the 5th. highest mountain in the world is a stunning sight that you see on the first few days of the trek. The top of Everest stands a steep 3350m /10988ft above the Base Camp. Because of its remoteness this route to the Everest region is the least trekked. George Mallory and Guy Bullock were the first westerners to explore the region in 1921. They finally chose the alternate route via the Rongbuk Glacier for their own expedition to Mt. Everest. – It is understandably why. We will also be visiting Rongbuk and the current north side base camp of Mt. Everest.

Peru: Amazon Inti Raymi Festival & the Cordillera Huayhuash June 2008
The Peru trip is a wonderful combination of the Amazon, Cusco and Machu Picchu (at the time of the Inti Raymi Festival) combined with one of my favourites walks, which is around the Cordillera Huayhuash. You can ofcourse choose to do any one, two or all three sections of this trip. The trip begins with a journey to Cusco and to Manu National Park. Manu is considered by many to be the finest ecotourism destination in the entire Amazon basin. After the trip down to the Amazon, we fly back to Cusco to visit Machu Picchu, take a tour of the sacred Valley with Inca ruins and enjoy festivities of Inti Raymi., You have a lot of Peruvian Indians come to Cusco in their traditional outfits to celebrate and perform. These few extra days also helps us with the acclimatisation for our trek around the Cordillera Huayhuash. After the festival in Cusco we travel to Huaraz in north Peru to trek around the Cordillera Huayhuash. The landscape in this region is spectacular. We cross passes over 4800m high and often cap close to glacier fed lakes with stunning mountain views.
